About Woolly Wellness
Hello, I’m Charlotte, founder of Woolly Wellness.
My love for animals began when I was a little girl growing up next door to a dairy and sheep farm. I would often sneak over the back wall to visit the sheep, feed the lambs in springtime and hitch a ride on the tractor whenever I could. Those early moments among the animals and open fields instilled in me a lifelong connection with nature and a deep appreciation for the calm and comfort animals bring.
For 22 years, I worked in a local primary school — from teaching assistant to school business manager — and while I loved my time there, my passion for animals never faded. I kept a small flock of Castlemilk Moorit sheep, but when my daughter wanted to be more involved, I searched for a gentler breed we could both enjoy together. That’s when I discovered Coloured Ryeland sheep, known for their friendly, calm nature.
We found two wonderful sheep, Daisy and Doris, from smallholders in Gloucestershire and brought them home. Caring for them — and later showing them — was such fun and children adored them. Before long, our flock grew!
One day, I took Daisy and Doris into East Haddon Primary School where I worked, to join a Forest School session. There was a little boy in school who, despite my daily efforts, had never spoken to me. As the sheep grazed quietly outside, I noticed him inching closer, his curiosity growing. I gently asked if he’d like to stroke them. He reached out his hand and as his fingers sank into the thick fleece, a huge smile spread across his face. He looked at me and said softly, “It’s so soft.” He chatted to me throughout the rest of the session — helping feed and groom the sheep — and from that day on, his confidence and communication blossomed.
That was when I truly understood the power of connection between humans and animals — how these gentle interactions can open hearts and make real, lasting changes in people’s lives.
From that spark, Woolly Wellness was born.
I left my school career after 22 years and became an Animal Therapy Practitioner, dedicating my time to nurturing my flock and bringing a little Woolly Wellness to schools, nurseries, care homes, and community groups.
Alongside our visits, I’ve developed a deep passion for working with the fleece from my own sheep. There’s something so grounding about using the wool the flock provides — washing, carding, and weaving it by hand on a peg loom to create natural mats and other handmade pieces. These woolly creations are available to order, each one made with care using sustainable, natural materials from our own sheep — a beautiful way to bring a touch of Woolly Wellness into your home.
